Our Impact
Early Childhood Development (ECD)
Early Childhood Development supports a child’s development from birth to the age of five. Services and programmes refer to holistic care; health, nutrition, play, learning and safety. Our programmes prepare children for life.
Our first ECD program was established in De Doorns, Western Cape in 2017.
Sunny Kids created 10 jobs and currently cares for and educates 51 learners between the ages of three and six. The centre is growing and expansion is underway. Soon we will double our capacity and improve the lives of an additional 40 children.
The monthly school fees of only R300 per month includes education, care and one nutritional meal.
Several parents are seasonal workers and often struggle to contribute to yearly school fees. A small recurring gift will offer continued education of young minds and the development of strong bodies.
Wellbeing of Agri-workers
Agri-workers play a vital role in the successes of the fruit export business. In 2009, Grape Company and Stems initiated a partnership between The Grape Community and the Waterval Bediening Trust, leading to the creation of the first “Kamp, van Dank” (Gratitude Breakaway).
In 2009 The Grape Community NPC partnered with the “Waterval Bediening Trust” and established the first “Kamp, van Dank” (Gratitude Breakaway).
This weekend breakaway catered for more than 250 Agri-workers from the Grape Company and Stems production farms in areas Hex River, Bergriver, Langeberg, Witsenberg and Drakenstein, Western Cape.
“Waterval Bediening” facilitated the weekend. Activities included small group discussions, one-on-one counselling, lectures, praise and worship sessions and some much-deserved private time.
The feedback from the workers was immensely positive and since then, additional farms joined the annual weekend camp. Management and volunteers from The Grape Community and The Grape Company joins the breakaway on the Saturday evening where they engaged in cooking dinner for all the workers involved and share a meal with them.
Help give recognition and thanks by making a donation towards the next camp.
Caring for the Environment
The change we want starts with us!
A small daily choice will have a lasting impact on the environment. Children learn to caring for the environment and animals. Through integrated learning, we teach the future generation about sustainable living & encourage them to actively pursue it.
A donation of books from The Cape Leopard Trust teaches young minds about wildlife in a language of their choice. Books are available in Afrikaans, English, and Isixhosa.
Mirriam House started to plant vegetables on the side of the house and now has access to fresh and seasonal vegetables for the children's meals.
We encourage all our projects to consider starting a sustainable food garden and will offer resources to contribute towards food security and nutritional meals.
Social Development Goals
South Africa adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development in 2015. The SDG’s, also known as Global Goals, is a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet, and ensure that by 2030, all people enjoy peace and prosperity.
The Grape Community focuses on rural social development and proudly supports 9 of the UN's Global Goals.
